When making milk, cream costs twice as much as skim milk. A carton of milk which consists of $\frac{1}{5}$ cream and $\frac{4}{5}$ skim milk costs $2.10 to produce.

A cheapskate Chinese company decides to produce a carton of milk using only skim milk. What is their cost of production?

Let skim milk cost $x$ . So the cost of cream is $2x$ .

$\Rightarrow \frac { 1 }{ 5 } 2x\quad +\quad \frac { 4 }{ 5 } x\quad =\quad 2.1\\ \Rightarrow \frac { 2x }{ 5 } +\frac { 4x }{ 5 } =2.1\\ \Rightarrow \frac { 6x }{ 5 } =2.1\\ \Rightarrow 6x=10.5\\ \Rightarrow x=1.75$

So 1 carton of skim milk costs $1.75
