Slope

Calculus Level 1

Curve y = 8 x 2 + 64 x 80. y=8x^2+64x-80.

What is its slope at ( 8 , 0 ) (8,0) point?

64 8 16 4 192 80

Take the point ( 8 , 0 ) (8,0) . Find a point near it on the inferred tangent line, say ( 7 , 760 ) (7,760) . Find the slope of these two points, which is 184. Then, continue to get closer and closer to the point, and repeatedly solve for slope with the new points to see what the actual slope is. In this case, the closer and closer my points got to ( 8 , 0 ) (8,0) , the closer my slope got to 192. Therefore, the derivative is equal to 192.
