5 hens requires 5 days to hatch 5 eggs. So 1 hen will require 5 days to hatch 1 egg. Therefore 100 hens will require 5 days to hatch 1 eggs each.

i am new. this seems like a good community

I interpreted the question as 5 eggs in total and not 5 eggs per hen. So, I concluded that 1 egg per day per hen. This resulted in 1 day for 100 hens at 1 egg per day. Someone tell me why this question has to be interpreted 5 eggs in total. I don't understand.

It does not. It requires that you recognize that it takes a single hen 5 days to hatch an egg. If that hen could sit on 100 eggs laid on the same day, they would all hatch in five days.

It does not take 5 days for a hen to lay 1 egg (they can lay close to an egg a day), nor does it take 5 days for an egg to hatch (much longer). The question should specify 5 eggs in total or 5 eggs per hen a day (which is not uncommon).

Trent Ingram - 5 years, 2 months ago

That was a nice succinct answer. Bravo

Blake Edwards - 5 years, 11 months ago

Hi A. Cooper, I agree (though I think you meant the opposite in your first sentence). The question is missing a specification. It should make clear they hatch a combined total of 5 eggs in 5 days.

Trent Ingram - 5 years, 2 months ago

The solution is simply that: a single hen egg give us permission every 5 100 chickens need to give us five days to 100 eggs

Akash Choudhury - 6 years, 8 months ago

the solution is simply a single hen egg give us permit every 5 100 chickens need to give us 5 days to 100 eggs

actually in 5 days 1 hen lays 1 egg...so in 5 days every 1 from 100 hen's will lay 1 egg summing up to 100

N1 number of hen take D1 number of days to do W1 work,ie, 5 eggs here.... N2 number of hen take D2 number of days to do W2 work( 100 eggs ).... N1=5 N2=100 D1= 5 D2 = ? W1 = 5 W2 = 100.

(N1 * D1) / W1 = (N2 * D2) / W2

Since 5 hens required 5 days to hatch 5 eggs, then it is obvious that at the same time when hundreds of them are hatching the same number of eggs then it remain the same number of days.....

5hens for 5 eggs in 5 days , probably 1 hen hatch 1 egg in 5 day,,,

Ryan Mark Joromo - 6 years, 8 months ago

The question is ambiguous; do 5 hens hatch 5 eggs EACH or 1 egg each = 5? (Ever lived on a farm?)

My Answer is : 20 Days

Fathy Atta - 6 years, 8 months ago

It is (5×5)/5=(100×X)/100 So X= 5, thus the answer is 5. Simple.

For 5 hens it would take 5 days to hatch 5 eggs. It's no matter how many hens are there. It would take 5 days to hatch egg for a hen.so the answer is 5.

Since 5 hens required 5 days to hatch 5 eggs, then it is obvious that at the same time when hundreds of them are hatching the same number of eggs then it remain the same number of days means 5 days or solve ( 5 5)/5=(100 x)/100 u would get 5

My Answer is : 20 Days

Fathy Atta - 6 years, 8 months ago

it takes same 5 days because they hatch simultaneously

M1 number of people to take D1 number of days to do W1 works.ie 5hens need 5 days to hatch 5 eggs.then how many days would it take 100 hens to hatch 100 eggs? SOLUTION : the formula is M1 D1/W1=M2 D2/W2 M1=5, D1=5, W1=5; M2=100, W2=100, D2=? 5X5/5=100XA/100 5=100A/100 5=A

the answer is 5

Each hen hatches 0.2 eggs per day (obviously not possible but for this case lets say it is). By that logic, 100 hens will hatch 20 eggs in 1 day (0.2 * 100). This continues until after 5 days, 100 eggs are hatched.

Claire Meng
Sep 27, 2014

If 5 hens require 5 days to hatch 5 eggs, each egg takes 5 days. So, if there are 100 eggs and 100 hens it is still 5 days for 1 hen to hatch 1 egg.

What it matters is each hen takes 5 days to be hatched by a hen so what ever the number of eggs to be hatched we just consider the 100 eggs to be hatched by 100 hens i.e, each egg is hatched by each hen in 5 days finally the answer is 5

Obviously true no I understand
