So many x x 's and y y 's, oh my!

Algebra Level 1

x + 3 y + 2 x + y + 5 x 4 y + 4 x + 6 y = A x + B y x + 3y + 2x + y + 5x - 4y + 4x + 6y = Ax + By

The above shows an algebraic identity. Find A + B A + B .

Separating the terms: (x + 2x + 5x + 4x) = 12x, (3y + y - 4y + 6y) = 6y

A = 12, B = 6, 12 + 6 = 18
