The top 4 in the Group Stage then qualify for the Playoffs, where there are 2 semi-finals (Between 1st and 3rd and between 2nd and 4th), followed by 1 final (between the two winners of the two semi finals).

Richard wishes to buy 1 ticket each for every match, at a discounted rate of $45.

if we first take only home matches , it accounts for 1+2+3+....+8= 36 matches. For home + away matches, multiply it by 2 = 72 matches Thus, total matches = 72 + 2 semi finals + 1 final =75 matches. thus answer is 75 * 45

Correct me if I am mistaken, but if each team plays 2 games 9 x 2 =18, plus the 2 from the semifinal and the final gives 21 games. Then 45 x 21 = 945. I got the right answer in the end when I did ((9 x 8 + 3) x 45), giving me 3375, but if each team plays 2 games, then the answer should be 945. Just a thought.

John, each team plays 2 games against each opponent, as is mentioned in the question.
