If x y + y x = 500 x^{y} +y^{x} =500 Find x -y = ?

Assume x &y are natural numbers.


The answer is 498.

Consider x= 499 and y=1. Then on substituting, we get 498.

If x and y are positive real numbers, then there are multiple solutions. An example would be x = y 3.99 x = y \approx 3.99 .

There was no implication that x and y were integers.
