Stella the school teacher is bringing 38 of her students out on a field trip. The bus that contains her students has 25 rows of seats, and each row contains 2 seats. When taking attendance on the bus, she notices there was no empty row of seats. How many rows of seats have exactly 1 student in them?

The question asks how many seats have only one student on them. Therefore, the presence of the teacher is irrelevant. Also, nice trolling.
Suppose that at the time of seating every child got on a row.So there were exactly 13 students that are left. So they must be occupying exactly 13 another seats in the same row as other children are seated. SO THERE are 13 rows that contain 2 seated children. Then the rows containing only one child is 25 - 13=12
You're great
thanks!!!!!!
good qs
Don't make math hard
A MAN CAN ROW AT 8 KMPH IN STILL WATER.IF THE RIVER IS RUNNING AT 2 KMPH , IT TAKES HIM 48 MINUTES TO ROW TO A PLACE AND BACK. HOW FAR IS THE PLACE?
There are 25 rows of 2 each 2X25 =50 - 38 = 12
x is the number of rows with 2 students. y is the number of rows with 1 student. So x + y = 25. So y = 25 - x. Total number of students is 2x + y = 38. By substituting for y, 2x + 25 - x = 38. So x = 13 and y = 12.
I imagined it in my mind as a picture. I first put 1 student in each row which is 25 students already. Next, I did 38 total students subtracted by 25 students that are seated which equals 13 left that haven't sat down yet. I add those 13 students one to each row again which means that 13 rows have 2 students sitting there and 12 rows that have only 1 student sitting.
Good clear explanation of your thought process.
It is the same thing I did.
So stella have 38 students going on a field trip. The bus has 25 rows of seats and each row cointains 2 seats. So we multiply 25 to 2 because they are the rows and the answer is 50. So 50 minus 38 of her students is 12.
Put one student in each row...remaining 13 students.put them in seats...remains 12 empty seats..!!
Let's say there are x amount of rows with 2 people
2x + 1(25-x) = 38 There are x rows with 2 people There are 25 - x rows with 1 person
2x + 25 - x = 38 = x +25 = 38 = x = 13
There are 13 rows with 2 people in each So there are 12 rows with 1 person in each
So the answer is 12
Total rows =25 Empty rows=0 No of rows with more than 1 student=38-25=13 Remaining rows with one student=25-13=12
DATA :
ROWS= 25
STUDENTS = 38
SOLUTION : NUMBER OF STUDENTS - NOUMBER OF ROW = 38-25=13
13 (2) =26 , NUMBERS OF SEATS LEFT 12 ... SO EASY
Please explain how!!..

There are 25 seats and 38 students, so if only one student sat on each seat, there would be 13 students left. When they sit down, there will be 12 seats with only one student per seat.
