Sound is made of Compressions & Rarefactions

A sound wave has wavelength ( λ \lambda ) 12 m 12m & frequency ( ν \nu ) 30 H z 30 Hz . What is the sum of the compressions & rarefactions produced in t = t = 10 10 seconds?

None of these 300 450 600

We know that ν = 30 H z \nu = 30 Hz . T ( time period ) = 1 30 \Rightarrow T (\text{time period}) = \frac{1}{30} .

Therefore, the number of waves = t T = \frac{t}{T} = 10 1 30 \frac{10}{\frac{1}{30}} . = 300 = 300 .

But each wave consists of 1 1 compression & 1 1 rarefaction.

\Rightarrow Sum of compressions & rarefactions = 300 × 2 = 600 = 300 \times 2 = \boxed{600} .
