As the formula of average speed with 2 same distance, the average speed is 2 1 20 + 1 30 = 2 3 60 + 2 60 = 2 5 60 = 2 1 12 = 2 × 12 = 24 m p h \frac{2}{\frac{1}{20}+\frac{1} {30}}=\frac{2}{\frac{3}{60}+\frac{2}{60}}=\frac{2}{\frac{5}{60}}=\frac{2}{\frac{1}{12}}=2 \times 12=\boxed{24~mph}
