I have a square. The square has been divided into 2 regions such that both have the same area.

Must they also have the same perimeter?

One counter-example is this 4 × 4 4 \times 4 square that is divided into 2 2 equal regions of 8 8 unit squares each:

The blue region has a perimeter of 16 16 but the gray region has a perimeter of 12 12 .
