Technically, 9801 \sqrt{9801} implies the positive square root, but I get what you are trying to do.

How did this problem get up to 1500? This is so troll.

Daniel is right. The square root is a function and can only return one value. By convention, it returns the positive number which should have been 99 99 .

Solution is positive and negative. Their absolute value is the same. For example 1 \sqrt{1} has two solutions, which is ± 1 \pm{} 1 . Adding these two will give 0. 9801 \sqrt{9801} also has solutions ± 9801 \pm\sqrt{9801} . Adding these two gives 0 \boxed{0}

Actually, the only square root of 9801 9801 is 99 99 . But the two solutions to the equation x 2 = 9801 x^2=9801 are 99 99 and 99 -99 . There is a difference between the two.

The value of any square root(that is not imaginary) can be positive or negative, because when you square them they become positive. Therefore, it is 0 because the two solutions are opposites.

√9801 = ± 99

+99 – 99 = 0

What? A square root should be a positif number

Not always.
