A cement walkway, 1 meter wide, surrounds the grass on all sides.

What is the area of the walkway in square meters?

The walkway and the grass combine to a form a square with length 7 m. This has an area of 7 * 7 = 49 square meters.

The grass itself has an area of 5 * 5 = 25 square meters.

So the area of the walkway is 49 - 25 = 24 square meters.
