  1. Convert the percentage into a decimal, 1 % = 0.01 1\% = 0.01

  2. Take the square root, 0.01 = 0.1 \sqrt{0.01} = 0.1

  3. Convert back from decimal into percentage, 0.1 = 10 % 0.1 = 10\% .

Moderator note:

Good approach of converting to decimals, which we are more familiar with.

Did it the same exact way.

It was converted again to percentage because all the options for the possible solution are in Percentage.

Square root of 1% is 0.1 is understood. How can you convert it again to percent . According to your solution square root of 1% equal to 10%.

It doesn't mean anything a square root of a percentage !!! 1% isn't a number !!!

Percent means per 100 So 1% means. 1/100 Or 8% means 8/100

1 % 1\% is equivalent to 0.01 or 1 100 \frac{1}{100} . So we are essentially computing 1 100 \sqrt{\frac{1}{100}} .

1 100 = 1 10 = 0.1 or 10 % \sqrt{\frac{1}{100}} = \frac{1}{10} = 0.1 \text{ or } 10\%

It is reasonable to say that a squared root of 1/100=1/10. But since the '%'symbol carries a meaning of percentage and it is meaningless to have a percentage square-rooted (try to think of a situation where you need to sqaure-root a percentage, you'll never come up with one) this question is nothing but an optical illusion calculation problem. It carries no mathematical meaning.

1% of 25 is .25, this number is not random, it is found by ether multiplying 25 by .01 or by 1/100, because this is the necessary way of finding .25 1% has an actually numerical value. And while no in any normal situation you will never have to square-root a percentage, mathematician are weird and will do things like that for the simple fact that it can be done. And since 1% is merely a representation of a positive finite number, it can in fact be done, and thus does carry "mathematical meaning."

Bryan Shaw - 6 years, 9 months ago

Brian, though you have a point, 1% is in fact equal to 1/100. That is the meaning of %. therefore 1/10 would be the correct answer therefore 10% is correct

Jack Wheatley - 6 years, 9 months ago

I have a squared root of 1/100. The root squared of 1 is 1 and the root squared of 100 is 10. Hence the solution is 1/10 that it is 10%, because 1/10 = 10/100..

1%=1/100 and and squre root 1/100 = 1/10 and 1/10 = 10/100 so answer is 10 %

Sohaib Ahmad - 6 years, 10 months ago

Percentages are always relative to a whole, so 1% is not a numerical value of its own.

The question here is then: 1% of what?

the sqrt of (1 % of 10000) is 10, while the sqrt of (1 % of 2500) is 5.

As the whole is not given, the reader is left to guess what the author has in mind.

Ton de Moree - 4 years, 11 months ago

Has this been the case then √1℅of 2= 10% of 2 i.e. 0.20 but it is mathematically inorrect... and write answer will be √2/10.

Judith Ortiz - 1 year, 2 months ago

I did this way: 1 % 1 100 10 0 1 1 0 1 1 10 10 % \sqrt{1\%} \rightarrow \sqrt{\frac{1}{100}} \rightarrow \sqrt{100^{-1}} \rightarrow 10^{-1} \rightarrow \frac{1}{10} \rightarrow 10\%

Then I realized that doing 1 100 \frac{\sqrt{1}}{\sqrt{100}} would be enough. :P

Haha. Can you please take a look at mine, and comment, sir? I really appreciate feedback, especially since I've just started giving solutions to problems. Thank you!

1% = 1 100 \frac{1}{100}

Therefore, 1 % = 1 100 \sqrt { 1\%} = \sqrt { \frac { 1 }{ 100 } } , and we can now simply:

1 % = 1 100 = 1 100 = 1 10 = . 1 = 10 % \sqrt { 1\% } = \sqrt { \frac { 1 }{ 100 } } = \frac { \sqrt { 1 } }{ \sqrt { 100 } } = \frac { 1 }{ 10} = .1 = 10\%

1% = 1/100, So find the square root of 1/100 , which is 1/10. Hence multiply by 10 to both numbers we get, 10/100, which can be written as 10%. Tada ! Done!

1 % 1\% can be expressed as 1 100 \frac{1}{100} so 1 % \sqrt{1\%} = 1 100 \sqrt{\frac{1}{100}} = 1 100 \frac{1}{\sqrt{100}} = 1 10 \frac{1}{10} = 10 % 10\%

We can solve the problem really easily. First step: Change 1% into a decimal, which is 0.01. Second step: Take the square root of 0.01, which is 0.1. Third step: Convert it into a percentage and you are done!

1 % = 1 100 \sqrt{1\%} = \sqrt{\frac{1}{100}}

1 % = 1 100 \sqrt{1\%} = \frac{\sqrt{1}}{\sqrt{100}}

1 % = 1 10 \sqrt{1\%} = \frac{1}{10}

1 % = 0.1 \sqrt{1\%} = 0.1

1 % = 10 % \therefore \sqrt{1\%} = 10\%

1% is read as 1 percent. (since percent = per 100) therefore 1% = 1/100 now 1 / 100 = 1 / 10 \sqrt{1/100} = 1/10 now it's almost done 1/10 converting into percent will be 10/100 or 10per cent or 10%. (keeping it simple)

I did a similar thing with the percentages. In math, any whole number like 1 represents 100% of a substance, like 100% of a cookie is one cookie with every crumb attached (like in its packing). So, the square root of 1% or .01 has to be a number multiplied by itself to give us two decimal places, like .10 or equivalently, 10%.

There are 2 solutioon

a- %1= 0.01 = 0.1 x 0.1 then the square root is +0.1 = %10
b- %1= 0.01 = (- 0.1) x (-0.1) then the square root is - 0.1 = -%10

Square root is defined as non-negative value
