a 2 b 2 a + b = ( a + b ) ( a b ) ( a + b ) = a b \large\dfrac{a^2-b^2}{a+b}=\dfrac{(a+b)(a-b)}{(a+b)}=a-b .

The answer is true provided a + b 0 a + b \neq 0 .
