If a a is the distance from the center of smaller square to the edge, and b b is the same for the larger square then:

Distance A B = 2 a + 2 b = 2 ( a + b ) AB=2a+2b=2(a+b) .

Distance M N = m = MN=m= average of a a and b b = a + b 2 =\dfrac{a+b}2

Therefore A B M N = 2 ( a + b ) a + b 2 = 4 \dfrac{AB}{MN}=\dfrac{2(a+b)}{\frac{a+b}2}=\boxed4
