Logic Level 4

If Peter did not finish his math homework, he will not get a good grade. If Peter get a good grade, he will get an award. If Peter listened to the teacher during class, he will finish his math homework. If Peter did not listen to the teacher during class, he will get a bad grade.

How many of the following statements are logically correct? Note: Not getting a good grade and getting a bad grade are NOT the same.

  • If Peter got an award, then he finished his math homework and listened to the teacher during class.
  • If Peter finished his math homework, he got a good grade.
  • If Peter did not got a bad grade, then he listened to the teacher during class.
  • If Peter did not got a good grade, then he didn't got an award.
  • If Peter didn't listen to the teacher during class, he will not get an award.
  • If Peter got a good grade, then he finished his math homework and listened to the teacher during class.
  • If Peter did not get an award, then he did not get a good grade.

Lets analyze the staments one by one:

  • Statement 1: False. There are other ways Peter can get an award. (Not only getting a good grade)
  • Statement 2: False. Not doing the math homework implies Peter will not get a good grade. However, the question didn't say doing the math homework guranteeds a good grade.
  • Statement 3: True. This statement is the contrapositive of the statement "If Peter did not listen to the teacher during class, he will get a bad grade."
  • Statement 4: False. Same reason as statement 1.
  • Statement 5: False. Same reason as statement 1.
  • Statement 6: True. If Peter did not finish his math homework, it will impossible for him to get a good grade. If he did not listened to the teacher during class, he will get a bad grade, which is exactly the opposite of a good grade.
  • Statement 7: True. This statement is the contrapositive of the statement "If Peter get a good grade, he will get an award."

There are 3 correct statements in total.

This is a very good solution. 这是一个非常好的解决方案.
