The sum of 2 numbers is 1, and the absolute difference of the two numbers is 2. What is the product of the 2 numbers?


The answer is -0.75.

Suppose x > y.

  • x + y = 1
  • x - y = 2 Add both equations...
  • 2x = 3
  • x = 1.5
  • y = - 0.5
  • x * y = - 0.75
