When you multiply 9 by 2, you get 18. Notice that the sum of the digits in both numbers are the same.

As you keep trying different numbers, you start to notice that only multiples of 9 works.

All multiples of 9 are multiples of 3, so the answer is 3.

We can take an example 24, the sum of the digits is 6. Twice 24 is 48. The sum of digits of 48 is 12; therefore, 24 is twice 12. We notice if a number is not a multiple of 3, this scenario doesn’t work.
