When the centers of the pulses center at the same spot, the pulse shape that is found is the superposition of the pulse displacements. At the center, the amplitudes exactly cancel giving zero displacement, while at other locations the displacement of the triangle pulse acts to reduce the displacement of the round pulse creating a smaller displacement.
