x + 4 ( 2 ) = 12 ⟹ x = 4 x + 4(2)=12\implies \boxed{x = 4}

We can simplify the equation to get

x + 4(2) = 12

Multiply 4 by 2

x + 8 = 12

Move 8 to the right side of the equation and change the 8 into negative 8, '-8 '

x = 12 - 8

Subtract 8 from 12

x= 4

y = 2 y = 2

x + 4 ( 2 ) = x + 8 = 12 x + 4(2) = x + 8 = 12

x = 12 − 8 = 4 x = 12 - 8 = \fbox 4

Given that y = 4 y=4 , the equation becomes x + 8 = 12 x+8 = 12 . This can be rearranged and we see that x = 12 − 8 = 4 x = 12-8 = \boxed{4}
