Sorry, but I am patient enough to brute force this cubic by substitution.... Didn't waste any time thinking for an elegant solution ;P ! Btw please edit the question to incorporate latex because there is ambiguity whether a = 1 2 3 a = \dfrac {1}{2} - \sqrt {3} or a = 1 2 3 a = \dfrac {1}{2 - \sqrt {3}} .
