Suspicious Murder

Logic Level 1

One afternoon, a man was murdered in a village house. There were four people living in that house:

  • A Gardener
  • A Cook
  • A Businessman (not the man who was murdered)
  • A Teenager

Each made a statement:

  • The Gardener said: "I was watering the plants."
  • The Cook said: "I was cooking breakfast."
  • The Businessman said: "I was reading a book."
  • The Teenager said: "I was playing the piano."

Who murdered the man?

Note: Only 1 person was the murderer.

The Gardener The Businessman The Cook The Teenager

The cook said: "I was cooking breakfast." But the man was murdered in the afternoon, so how could the cook be cooking breakfast at the time?

All of the other people's statements were reasonable, so the cook was the murderer.

This is the type of logic problem which one needs to read every single word very carefully

Yes. Some people can get muddled up with the facts and end up getting it wrong. I recommend reading it twice before answering.

But you mentioned that all the statements are true?
