Note that the Tap A was opened for full 24 minutes, this means the work done by A was 24 36 = 2 3 \dfrac{24}{36}=\dfrac{2}{3} , this implies work left was 1 3 \dfrac{1}{3} which was done only by B, hence the work done by B in 48 minutes is 1, then one-third work is done in 16 minutes. So the tap B was only opened for 16 minutes.

Phools sir way
