A set of 5 numbers is given and the mean of the numbers is 4. So the sum is surely 5 x 4 =

20 \boxed{20}

Let the sum of other four numbers other than 5 be x

It's given 1+ x/5=4 (mean) ,thus x=15

Thus the sum of the five numbers = 5+15 = 20 \boxed{20}

While the mode and the median are not necessary to know the sum, just to verify, there is indeed a satisfying set: 1 , 1 , 5 , 6 , 7 1, 1, 5, 6, 7 satisfies the required properties. (If there's no such set, it's meaningless to talk about the sum.)

Since the mean is 4 we get the answer ! Just multiply the number of numbers here to the mean ie, 4*5 = 20

You don't need to know the median or mode in order to find the total.

The mean is 4. if there are 5 numbers in the set just multiply the amount of numbers by the mean to have the solution you desire.
