Your friend lays out 5 cards in front of you face down. He tells you that one of the cards may or may not be a 4 of Spades. Your friend explains that you may ask him about the cards, and he will reply "Yes", "No" or "Maybe." "However," he adds. "I will lie twice."
And so, you ask him about the cards, left to right.
When you ask your friend if card #2 is the 4 of Spades, he replies: "Yes." Next, you ask him about card #2. He replies: "No." For both cards #3 he replies: "Perhaps." For card #4 he replies "Yes." For card #5 he replies Yes Is there a 4 of Spades?

Your friend says "Yes" three times. But he can only lie twice. Therefore one of the "Yes" cards must really be the 4 of spades.
