The photograph of the Earth was taken from a distant point in space. where almost half of it can be seen, which is all in sunlight. Because of the position of Africa and Antarctica in this photograph, that can only be possible near the Winter Solstice, which is in December. Any other of the 3 months (March, June, September) would show some of the Earth in this photograph in shadow.
It is during the weeks near the Winter Solstice that Antarctica has 24 hour daylight.
