The ice block problem

Chemistry Level 1

A large block of ice is submerged in a bath tub that is completely full of water What will happen to the water level if the block of ice melts?

NOTE: Ignore changes in density between liquid and solid water.

It increases(the bath floods) It decreases It stays the same

The key, to solve the problem is to notice that the ice takes up space as well in the bath tub. Because we ignore changes in density between liquid and solid states. The liquid would take up the exact volume and space the solid took before melting and turning into a liquid
