The Milk Problem

Algebra Level 3

You are a 12 year old boy living in the United States. You are a very picky eater and one day your mom made you something you didn't like for dinner. Now usually when that happens you skip dinner but today you had a very small lunch so you thought to yourself I might as well have some milk. So you went to the fridge to get some milk while you were drinking you read that 37% of the fat that was in the milk was removed leaving 5g of fat per glass. How many grams of fat are there in a glass of whole milk (milk in which none of the fat was removed)?

Round your answer to the nearest whole number

If 37% of the fat was removed, then 100% - 37% = 63% of the fat remained.

If x is the amount of fat in one glass of whole milk, then:

0.63x = 5

x = 7.9365 = 8 (0 d. p.) x = 7.9365 = \boxed {8} \text { (0 d. p.) }
