Expand 3^5 into 3^4 * 3 3^4 + 3^4 * 3 = 3^4 * 4 This can be further simplified into 3^4 * 2^2 Taking the square root of that gives 3^2 * 2 = 18 .

3 5 + 3 4 = 3 4 ( 3 + 1 ) = 3 2 4 = 9 2 = 18 \sqrt{3^5+3^4} = \sqrt{3^4(3+1)} = 3^2 \sqrt 4 = 9 \cdot 2 = \boxed {18}
