both a to b and c to d are steep. but looking at the landscape below we can tell that c to d is much steeper

Line AB and CD forms the steep portion of the ski lift that is inclined to a straight path of line BC.

Consider the point B as the origin on the Y-axis of a graph with sides AB and BC respectively on its X-axis.

Similarly ,consider the point C as the origin on the Y-axis of another graph with sides BC and CD respectively on its X-axis.

We may notice that the angle of inclination made by angle with origin C in the y-axis say, angle BCY is more than the angle of inclination made by angle with origin B in the y-axis say, angle ABY .

Hence line CD i.e. from point C to D the portion of the ski lift is the steepest.

From C to D Because the angle which CD makes with X.axis is the Greatest angle so it is the steepest path
