The Way of the Exponent

Algebra Level 2

Consider this equations:

8 x 2 x + y = 64 \dfrac{8^x}{2^{x+y}}=64 and 9 x + y 3 4 y = 243 \dfrac{9^{x+y}}{3^{4y}}=243

Find the value of 2 x y 2xy .

Simplify the fractions to obtain:

8 x = 2 x + y + 6 8^x=2^{x+y+6} -----> 2 2 x = 2 y + 6 2^{2x}=2^{y+6} and 9 x + y = 3 4 y + 5 9^{x+y}=3^{4y+5} ----> 3 2 x + 2 y = 3 4 y + 5 3^{2x+2y}=3^{4y+5}

Solving the system of equations you get y=1 and 2x=7.... so 2xy=7
