A clock loses ten minutes each hour. If the clock is set correctly at 12 o'clock noon, what is the correct time when the clock reads 3:00 P.M.? If your answer is X : Y Z X:YZ , find X × Y × Z X \times Y \times Z .

Because the clock loses 10/60 minutes, we see that it goes 5/6 as fast as normal. For it to display 180 minutes, 6 x / 5 = 180 6x/5=180 . Therefore it takes 216 minutes for the clock to display 180 minutes. Because it will be 3:36, 3 × 3 × 6 = 54 3 \times 3 \times 6=54 .

You should also have included on what day the clock read 3 p.m. ...
