Two large and 1 small pumps can fill a swimming pool in 4 hours. One large and 3 small pumps can also fill the same swimming pool in 4 hours. How many hours will it take 4 large and 2 small pumps to fill the swimming pool.(We assume that all large pumps are similar and all small pumps are also similar.)

Two large and one small pump fills the pool in 4 hours. Therefore, if there are 4 large and 2 small pumps (2 times as much as used to fill the pool in 4 hours), it will fill the pool twice as fast, making the time 2 hours...

MY LAST SOLUTION WAS WRONG HERE IS THE RIGHT ONE CORRECTED BY VENTURE LI.

One large pipe is equivalent to 2 small ones. We are told that it takes 2 large pipes and a small pipe 4 hrs to fill. This is also equivalent to 2.5 large pipes. Therefore, 4 large pipes and 2 small pipes is equivalent to 5 large pipes. Hence, the time is halved or 2 hours.

Yea I tried to do that but I can't, I only have access to changing the problem itself, not the answers.

Saiteja Pathivada - 6 years ago
