I think such assumption for this types of problem is really lengthy n confusing,
we can simply solve it by constructing equations for the problem.
From the problem we get the following,
120x - 10y = 1880 --------- (1)
x + y = 20 -----------(2)
x - is the number of days he worked
y - is the number of days he didn't worked
then by solving them we get,
x = 1 6 and y = 4
Hence, the correct answer is 4

The variable y can already be represented here as (20 - x ), since it is already established that the laborer was hired for exactly 20 days. However, in my solution, I let x be the number of absences and (20 - x ) the number of days the laborer is present so that the answer can be seen easily.
Therefore:
PS: Sorry if there are some parts that aren't clear enough. I'm just new here, learning the basics.
hahaha, i wrote 120x + `10y. so i get wrong. ahahaha a little tricky
me too
Yup this is the correct way!!!!
Why should we do 120-(-10)

As If u not came on specific day it means u will not get the credit for that day(120 Per day ) and u have to give fine (10 per day) as u not came.
why 120-(-10)
this was little bit confusing
same trick i followed :)
4
it is easy to but as a starter or a beginner i can only say that is a great confusing problem
i didn't get this.if he remains absent for 4 days then 4*10=40 rupees will be deducted,but he was given 1880 rupess,that means 2400-1880=520 rupees have been deducted.how come!!!!!!

hey, I think u haven't got the problem......wait I will tell u.
the problem says that a worker will be paid for each day he is present and would be fined 10 rupees if he is absent which is deducted from his owned salary,
that is he attends 16 days of his work that means he would be paid
16 * 120 = 1920.
Also, he is absent for 4 days so 40 rupees will be fined from his paid salary, which means
1920 - 40 = 1880.
1880 is given in the question.....ask if still not understood.
He won't get four days payment i.e 4 x 120 + 40 = 520
120 x 120=2400-1800=520/130=4.3
Better soluction.....
This solution both beautiful and efficient. Great job.
Assuming he did not miss work, he will earn 20 x 120 rupees = 2400 rupees. The difference is 2400 - 1880 = 520 rupees. Difference between work and absence is 120-(-10)=130. 520/130=4.
If you will write as an equation, is has to be 120(20 - x) - 10 x = 1880. That gives us an answer of 4 days.
if we divide 1880 by 120 , the answer comes in poins so we take one step further that is exactly divided by 120 so that is 1920 now if we take 1920-1880 which is 40, now divide 40 by 10 which is 4, so he did not work for 4 days
its a bacchha type question!!!!!
I think such assumption for this types of problem is really lengthy n confusing,
we can simply solve it by constructing equations for the problem.
From the problem we get the following,
120x - 10y = 1880 --------- (1)
x + y = 20 -----------(2)
x - is the number of days he worked
y - is the number of days he didn't worked
then by solving them we get,
x = 16 and y = 4
Hence, the correct answer is 4
suppose x present days and y absent days. then 120 rupees for each day receive if he is present and 10 rupees per each day cut if he is absent. 120x=receive rupees and 10y=fine rupees. total rupees 1880=120x-10y.......(1) and total days=20=x+y.......(2) solve equations (1) and (2) answer is x=16 and y=4 our question answer is 4....
mine is like this ^_^ 120 20 = 2400-1880 = 520 so, 120 4 = 480 + 40 (4days fine) = 520
Let no. of days present = x and no. of days absent = y. According to question, 120 x - 10 y = 1880 and x + y = 20. Solving these we get x = 16 and so y = 4.
x+y=20; 120x-10y=1880. Solve these equations and you will get the answer as : x=16 and y=4 So your answer is 4.
here x is number of days present and y is number of days absent
If the laborer was present for all 20 days then he would receive 120*20=2400 but he received only 1880. so the total difference is 2400-1880= 520 and 520 is divisible by only 4(as per the given options) so he wasn't present for 4 days
1880=2400-130X ==> x = (2400-1880) / 130 ==> x = 4 x is the number of days he was absent.
20*120 =2400 2400-1880=520 He will be fined 10 rupees(120+10) for one day that is Rs. 130. 520/130 gives 4.
Assuming he present every day, he would earn 1 2 0 × 2 0 = 2 4 0 0 rupees. But he earned 2 4 0 0 − 1 8 8 0 = 5 2 0 rupees less than the maximum possible. This shortfall can only come from his fine due to absence. For every day he is absent, he is fined 10 rupees instead of being paid 120 rupees which makes a difference of 130 rupees. Since the difference amounts to 520 rupees after 20 days, he must be absent for 1 3 0 5 2 0 = 4 days.
The easiest way of understanding this problem is this we know that if he goes to work in all those 20 days he will receive 2400 ruppees,since 20 x 120= 2400. But as the problem says he missed some days which caused him to only receive 1880. So By doing some calculations we can discover that in order for his boss to give him only 1880. It means that each day he misses not only he doesn't receive the salary of that day,which is 120, but he also gets a fine of 10 for each day. We can deduce that he missed 4 days,which will cause him to pay 40 rupees of fine(10 multiplied by days he missed) plus not receiving the 480 rupees(120 multplied by the days he missed).So in the end we have to merge the fine plus the absent salary of that day, which will give us 480+ 40= 520 and then we use subtract it from the 2400. 2400 -520= 1880 The calculation for knowing how much money he lost in total for each day he misses is very simple: (10 x days missed) + (120 x days missed) and then you subtract this value from the total salary of the days he was supposed to show up.
130 * 4(days absense) = 520(for absense) .Total = 1880
2400-1880=520
\
all days= 20
per day=120
total amount= 120
20=2400
amount receive=1880
total amount-received amount= 2400-1880=520
fine=10 rupee
when he absent he lost 120 and also pay 10 rupee fine
120+10=130
and 130
4=520
than ans is 4 days
and
20-4=16 x 120 = 1920 - 1880= 40/10=4
20 days = 20 * 120=2400 1880/120=16 no of days-present days of labourer=20-16=4 days he was absent
Let no. of days he worked x, therefore, no. of days he was absent = 20 - x
A.T.Q
120x− 10 (20−x)=1880
x = 16
Days he was absent = 20-x = 20-16 = 4
Let x be the number of days he was present. Therefore, number of days he was absent will be 20-x. We then form the equation 120x- 10(20-x)=1880. Solving the equation, we get x=16. So number of days he was present is 16 and he was absent for 20-16=> 4 DAYS.
for working 1day he earns Rs. 120. So, for working x days he earns Rs.1880 therefore x=1880/120=16 days, but in total days are 20,so 20-16=4days he was absent
Assuming he did not miss work, he will earn 20 x 120 rupees = 2400 rupees. The difference is 2400 - 1880 = 520 rupees. Difference between work and absence is 120-(-10)=130. 520/130=4
20 120-((120+10) x)=1880; 130*x=520; x=4.
120 x 20 = 2400
he got 1880, he didn't get 520
If he is absent, he will be fined 10 & will not get the money for that day
that means he will lose 130 for each day he is absent
520/130 = 4
the answer is 4
120x-10y = 1880 And x + y = 20; x = 20 - y Then 120(20-y) - 10y=1880 2400-120y-10y=1880 -120y-10y=1880-2400 130y=520 Y=4
If he is present for all 20 days he could have been got 2400 rupees,he receives 1880 rupees it means he worked for 16 days he suppose to get 1920 rupees but he got only 1880 rupees ,he was fined by 40 rupees so he was absent by 4 days.
For the 20 days of work he would get 2400 rupees and he only received 1880 rupees.Then, 2400-1880=520 120*4=480 480+40=520.Because for each day is absent 10 rupees will be fined therefore 4 days he fined for 40 rupees from his salary.The answer is 4
if he absent for 4 days his earning will be equal to 20-4=16 120 - (4 10)=1920- 40=1880
firstly the laborer shud be paid : 120*20=2400 rupees now he is paid 1880 rupees so,: 2400-1880= 520 he loses rs 130 for each day he is absent so, 520/130=4 days
Very easy! 1880/120=15.66 (equivalent to 16) so he worked 16 days and got payment for that. So he got absent for 4 days as he was engaged for 20 days. So (20-16)=4. See? it was easy. Thank you.
He lost 520 rupees. It means that he was absent for 4 days as, 4(120) + 4(10) = 480 + 40 = 520 he lost 480 for his non duty days, and lost 40 as he was fined by Rs. 10 per day
Let y be the number of working days; and x be number of resting days. As we known, there is total of 20 days available to work. (* Well why i use y and x, y for YES , x for NO ; just easier to recall and not to get confused) Hence:
x + y = 20
y = 20 - x @ x = 20 - y
Can think of 2 ways to solve this.:
[(Days of working)(120)] + [(Days of absent) (-10)] = 1880
Or
Max income - [(Days of absent) (-10) ] = 1880
Well, solution:
1 --- Days of working = y = 20 - x
2 --- Days of absent = x = 20 - y
3 --- Max income = (20)(120) = 2400
Replace the equation and you will solve this.
he earns 2400 in 20 days; for 16 days he ought to earn 1920; but he is absent for 4 days; so, 1920-40=1880
days of work = 20 days, wager = 120 rs/day, 10 rs fined for each absent. then the amount lost for the day = 120+10=130Rs, 20 days pay= 120*20 = 2400, received wager = 1880, total loss = 2400- 1880 = 520, number of day absent = 520/130 = 4 days.
120*19=2280-10=2270,
120*18=2160-20=2140,
120*17=2040-30=2010,
120*16=1920-40=1880,
first , multiply 120 to 20=2,400 rupees (must the laborer receive in 20 days), but he just only receive 1880 rupees so we will subtract it to 2,400 and the difference is 520 .Now, were going to divide 520 by 120 and the answer is 4.3 something .So the answer is 4.
a labour receive 120 rs.= 1 day a labour receive 2400 rs.= 20 days he present earns=120rs. per day he absent lose = 10 rs. per day so that, total loss=he loses his earnings(120)+fine(10)=130 rs. if the laborer receives 1880 rs. out of 2400 then losses is 2400-1880=520 and this 520 is a 4 times multiple of 130 we get , 520 so that, ans= 4 days.
by trail and error i found that laborer worked for only 16 days instead of 20 days .he did not work for 4 days for which he had to pay fine @ Rs 10/= per day His total payment=120*16 - 40=1880
Divide 1880 by 120, we will get 15.66...
120 * 15 = 1800, so not possible 120*16 = 1920, and 4 days absent (-40) = 1880 GOTCHA
Assume the no of days he was not present to be "X"
So the no of days he was present should be "20-X"
The income earned will be " 120(20-X)"
The penalty will be '10X"
hence, 120(20-X) - 10X = 1880
Solve the X,
Result X=4 days !!
present=x days absent=20-x days 120(x)-10(20-x)=1880 on solving we get x=16 days no of days absent = 4 days
Let present Day = x days then absent day = (20-x) days So, He received Money = 120x - (20 - x ) * 10 = 1880 (by the question) Solving, 120x - 200 + 10x = 1880 or, 130x = 2080 i.e. x = 2080/130 = 16 (present day) Hence, Absent Day = 20 - x = 20 - 16 = 4 days
let x days absent, (20-x) 120 -10 x =1880 , on solving x=4
(2400-1880)/130=4.. .for each day absent loss=130 rupees
If we consider that labour was absent for 4 days and present for 16 days then its earning will 16 into 120=1920-(4 into10=40)=1880
let x may the 'present' days & y may 'absent' days 120x + 10y = 1880 x + Y =20 .........on solving x =16 and y=4
Let Present days=x, absent days=y x+y=20 120x+10y=1880 Solving above equations, x=16 and y=4. So, no of days he was absent is 4
(3+4+5)/60 =1/x 1/x =1/5 x=5
The laborer is engaged for 20 days. 120 rupees each day he is present, -10 for each day absent.
So, I took the 1880, and had it subtracted from 2,400, the total of all of the rupees possible. That made 520, of course. Then, it turned out to be 520-130, -130 for every day absent. So, I put it into the context of 520/130, to find how many times 130 would go into 520, and it was 4.
So, to recap, 2,400 rupees was the total possible, whereas he got 1,880 rupees. The rupees he did not get were then evaluated for how many times he had missed. Basically,the 520 is -520, and the 130 is -130, which still comes out to make 4. We are basically seeing not how many rupees he gained, but how many he lost from the possible total. Then, when we divided -520 by -130, we came out with 4, which is how many days he must of missed.
(Note: We came up with -130 by putting the -10 he would get every day when he was absent, along with the 120 that he would miss every day, making -130.)
Let the laborer be present for x days. Therefore the laborer will be absent for 2 0 − x days. The salary that the laborer will get will be 1 2 0 x − ( 2 0 − x ) ∗ 1 0 = 1 8 8 0 . Solving the equation we get x = 1 6 . 2 0 − 1 6 = 4 . Hence the laborer will be absent for 4 days.
120 rupees x20 days=2400 rupees, 2400 -1880 = 520 rupees, when absent he loses 120+10=130 rupees, 520/130=4 days.
first of all...120x20=240 the laborer works 20 days later he received 1880 he was fined Rs.10 per every absent day it means he lost130 per day. if we do 2400-1880 we get520 and we know that 130*4=520 hence we got the answer =4
let x = present and y = absent. 120x - 10y = 1880 and x + y = 20 by using elimination. so, x = 16 and y = 4
Let, x= number of days present, y= number of days absent, then, first equation would be, 120x - 10y = 1880, and second equation would be, x + y = 20. By solving these equations simultaneously, we get, x = 16 days y= 04 days
first we multiply 120 *20 the answer will be = 2400 then we deduct 2400-1880= 520 and finally we divide 520/120 we got 4.333 so the answer will be 4 days.
120 * 20(days)=2400, 120 * 16(days)=1920- 40 ( 10 rupees per day deducted 4*10=40) = 1880 i.e. answer is 4
If he was present 20 days then total will be 120 x 20 = 2400 but he receives only 1880 difference was 520 X = 520/(120 + 10) so, X=4 He was absent for 4 days.
total for 20 days each day 120 will be 2400. He will be fined 10 if he is absent.... if he is absent 4 days the total will be 480. Then subtract 480 from 2400, it will be 1920. But for each absent day fine is 10, so 4*10=40. Subtract 40 from 1920 as 1920-40=1880
firstly calculate it for 20 days the total amount and then subtract the given no. and then divide the ans by 120 the remainder is 4.
20x120=2400
2400-1880=520
520/120=4 with remainder as 4
for 1 - day it is 120 rupees, therefore for 20 days 20*120=2400, but he received 1880 only, so the difference is 2400-1880 = 520. coming back if he is absent for one day he will not get payment for that day that means he will lose that particular day labor that is 120 rupees, along with that he will be fined 10 rupees, so it means if he is absent for one day he would get a loss of 130 rupees. he lost 520 rupees (from the above discussion) so no of days he was absent = Total loss of Pay (520)/Loss for a one days absent (130) 520/130=4 days
Let no of days of presence be X and no of days of absence be Y. for amount he received,the eqn is 20X-10Y=1880 for total no days, X+Y=20 solving these eqns,we will get the right soln ENJOY!!!
Let, Attend = x days so Absent = (20-x) day
so we can go their,
120 x - 10 (20-x) = 1880
so x = 16 (Attend days) so absent days = 4. (ans)
20 X 120 = 2400
2400-{n X (120+10)}=1880
find n
Here n comes 4
20x120=2400 but he received only 1880 so 4x120=480 plus 4x10=40( fine for 4 days 10 rs/day) total 520
Apply 'Try and Error' method for each option...
If he attends all the days, he must get 20 120=2400 rupees if he absent for one day, he will be fined 10 rupees, so he totally loose 120+10(fine)=130 rupees/day Lets us assume he is absent for 'x' no of days Total lose is x 130 therfore 1880+(x*130)=2400 on solving, x=4
The laborer gained 1880 rupees in all which can be earned in: 1880/120 = 15.6667 if you take it as 15 then within the domain of this assumption you have to deduct 50 from 1880 : 1880-50 = 1830 but 1830 can't be divided by 120 to get 15: 1830/120 = 15.25 so its self proven wrong but when you take it as 16 you have to add 40 as: 1880 + 40 = 1920 which results in: 1920/120 = 16 and its self proven right answer.
First find out the total amount which he is going to get , when he is present for all days. ie; 20*120=2400 , now subtract the money which he received , 2400-1880=520 now, we now that if he is absent for a day he is going to loose 120+10 =130 therefore, 520=130x x=4
For total 20 day he will get 2400 rupees but he actually got 1880 rupees so
now 2400-1880 = 520
devide the 520/120 = 480 as result and along with it we will get as 40 reminder. Since he has to pay 10 per each day he absent from there we can conclude that he is absent for 4 days(by deviding 40/10=4).
no of days rupees(20 120-20*10)=2400-200=2200 total rupees-acquired rupees(2200-1880)=320 converting rupees into days(320/20)=16 total no of days-acquired days(20-16)=4
let, he present=x days
he absent=20-x days.
then, 120
x - 10
20-x =1880
120x-200+10x=1880
130x=2080
x=16
so he was absent=20-16=4 days
Let, Working days = n; then absent days = 20-n; So we get, 120n - 10(20-n)=1880 => n = 16; So absent = 20 - 16 = 4 days
If he worked for 20 days, he would receive 120 x 20 = 2400 rupees in total.
However, if he is absent for 1 day, he would not be able to get the 120 rupees and would get fined 10 rupees also. So he would lose a total of 130 rupees if he did not work for a day.
Therefore, to calculate the number of days he is absent, (2400 - 1880) rupees/ 130 rupees = 4 days absent.
let x be the number of present days and y be the number of absent days therefore, x+y =20 (eq.1) 120x-10y =1880 (eq.2) manipulating eq.1 we have x=20-y substituting x by its value in eq 2, we have 120(20-y)-10y=1880 2400-120y-10y=1880 -130y=-520 therefore, y=4
Simple Simultaneous
P + A = 20; where P = number of days he was present, A = Absent, The total of these is 20 days of engagement
120P - 10A = 1880; since he RECEIVES 120 for every time he's present, and 10 rupees are DEDUCTED on being absent
Simplifying further (multiply equation (1) with 10:
10P = 10 A = 200
120P - 10A = 1880
Thus, 130P = 2080, so P = 16 (Since number of days he was PRESENT = 16, A = (20 - 16) = 4 days of absence! :) )
total wages for 20 days = 120X20 = 2400 Wages received = 1880 let no. of days labour work= x & Absent = 20-x
120x - (20-x)10 = 1880 (120 multiplied by number of days laborer worked - (absent)fine = net amout received 120x - 200 + 10x = 1880 130x = 2080 x = 16
No of working day is x = 16 and absent = 20-16 = 4 days
188/12 = 15+8 12-8 = 4

Assuming he did not miss work, he will earn 20 x 120 rupees = 2400 rupees. The difference is 2400 - 1880 = 520 rupees. Difference between work and absence is 120-(-10)=130. 520/130=4.
