A vending machine has 5 different fruit juices, 2 different cans of soda. How many combinations are there if you can choose 1 fruit juice and 1 soda at a time?

Here is how you do it... (as the numbers are small you can count it)

The first can will have five combinations (by counting).

The second can, similarly, will have five more combinations (by counting).

Hence there are ten combinations............

It could have been better if you could have added that each can and each fruit juice had separate combinations.

One soda can can be chosen with 5 different Juices

so there are 5 combinations now ( 1 soda can x 5 different juices )

And the other soda can also be chosen with 5 different soda cans

so another 5 combinations are formed (1 another soda can x 5 different juices)

so taking the total of two soda cans there are 10 combinations
