5 x 2 3 x + 2 = 4 5 x 2 3 x 2 = 0 ( 5 x + 2 ) ( x 1 ) = 0 x = 0.4 , 1 \begin{aligned} 5x^2 - 3x+2 & = 4 \\ 5x^2 - 3x - 2 & = 0 \\ (5x + 2)(x-1) & = 0 \\ \implies x & = \boxed {-0.4, 1} \end{aligned}

5 x 2 3 x + 2 = 4 5x^2-3x+2=4

5 x 2 3 x 2 = 0 5x^2-3x-2=0

By the quadratic formula,

x = b ± b 2 4 a c 2 a x=\dfrac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}

x = 3 ± ( 3 ) 2 4 ( 5 ) ( 2 ) 2 ( 5 ) x=\dfrac{3 \pm \sqrt{(-3)^2-4(5)(-2)}}{2(5)}

x = 3 ± 9 + 40 10 x=\dfrac{3 \pm \sqrt{9+40}}{10}

x = 3 ± 49 10 x=\dfrac{3 \pm \sqrt{49}}{10}

x = 3 ± 7 10 x=\dfrac{3 \pm 7}{10}

x = 3 + 7 10 = 10 10 = 1 x=\dfrac{3 + 7}{10}=\dfrac{10}{10}=1

or

x = 3 7 10 = 4 10 = 0.4 x=\dfrac{3 - 7}{10}=\dfrac{-4}{10}=-0.4
