Thou shall not pass!

60% of the students in a class cleared an exam in Science, 60% of the students cleared the exam in Mathematics. If 40% of the students cleared both the subject examinations, how many students failed both subjects given the total number of students in the class is 200?

40% of 200 = 80

60% of 200 = 120

Students passed in 1st subject only = 120-80 =40

Students passed in 2nd subject only = 120-80 =40

Total students passed = 80+40+40= 160.

Failed students = 200-160 = 40

40% passed both, that leaves 20% from each subject passing 1 exam, so 20% failed both.

Science pass student=120,maths pass student =120,both S&M pass student=80,so science only pass=40,maths only pass =40,student fail in both subject=200-(80+40+40)=40
