Logic Level 2

In a very special island, there are two types of people: A knight and a knave. You meet three islander, named Eric, Felix, and Gary. You don't know what type of people they are. You asked some questions to them.

You: How many knights are among you?

In reply, Eric answered but you couldn't hear what he said.

You: What did Eric said?

Felix: Eric said there is one knight among us.

Suddenly Gary said, ''Don't believe Felix! he is lying.''

Who is the knight?

Eric can be anything, but the fact about a knave Felix and a Knight Gary will not change.

Felix is lying about what Eric said, which implies that Eric’s must be a knight and must have said that there are two knights.

That also implies that Felix is a knave, because he’s lying!

That also implies that Gary’s a knight, because he said Felix was lying, and Felix actually was lying!

If Felix was lying about what Eric said, then couldn't he tell a lie of a lie(assuming Eric said something like "There are 3 knights among us")? That would imply Eric was a knave as well and it would still lead to the conclusion that Gary is a knight.

Knight Eric would have to reply a "2" originally, so Felix's "1" must be a lie, but on the other hand, a knave Eric won't ever reply a "1" as reported by Felix's (whether it's "2" or "3" or "a million" doesn't matter, since all are NOT-1). The fact remains that a "1 Knight" reply is impossible to Eric no matter who he is. I agree 💯% with you Sree that Eric can be anything.
