Three Rubies Riddle

Level 2

You are a bank robber in a bank. There are three rubies on the ground. You have enough time to pick one up before the police come. Two of them are fake, and are traps from the bank. If you pick a fake one up, the room will fill with gas and you will die. Just as you are about to pick a ruby, the police arrive. They allow you to pick one ruby. If you pick one that is poisonous, they will take you to jail. If you take the correct one, you can keep it, but you will be executed.

Three statements are false: The first ruby is deadly. The first sentence is false. The first ruby is safe. The last ruby is poisoned.

You don’t want to be executed, and you know that if you pick a poisonous one, you can run away through the open door with the real ruby. You decide to take two. Which will you take that will allow you to guarantee your freedom and the ruby’s safety?
