Let a man does the work in m days. Since a machine does the work in 1 3 × 2 = 2 6 days, we have
7 8 + 8 m = 2 ( 2 0 8 + 3 m ) ⟹ m = 1 6 9 .
So a man does the work in 1 6 9 days and hence to finish the work in 1 3 days, 1 3 1 6 9 or 1 3 men are required.
