1/9 + 1/p = 1/4.95

1/p = 1.4.95 – 1/9 = 1/11

p = 11

It took Danial 9 hours to pick 40 bushels, so that means he picked a bushel every 0.225 hours. (9/40 = 0.225) It took 4.95 hours to collect the bushels together, so if Danial picked them at the rate of 1 per 0.225 hours, he must have picked 22 bushels in that time. (4.95 / 0.225 = 22)

That means Paul must have collected 18 bushels (40 - 22 = 18) From the we can find out the rate he picked them the same way we did for Daniel, (4.95 / 18 = 0.275), so he picked 1 every 0.275 hours.

So how long did it take him to pick 40 bushels by himself? (0.275 x 40 = 11)

So it took him 11 hours to collect all the bushels by himself.
