Too many subs or too less?

A telephone conpany makes a profit of Rs12/subscriber, if it has 725 subs. If there are 726 subs, profit will be Rs11.99. If there are 727 subs, then profit wil be 11.98. What is the number of subscribers that will give the company maximum profit? (round your answer to the highest integer)


The answer is 963.

Let no of subscribers be x x

Therefore, profit earned, p = ( 725 + x ) ( 12 x / 100 ) p = (725+x)(12-x/100)

For max profit,

d p / d x = 0 dp/dx = 0

= > 12 x / 50 75 / 100 = 0 => 12-x/50-75/100 = 0

Therefore, x = 962.5 x = 962.5

Therefore, answer = 963 = 963

Then 962 is another answer
