Tough or trick

Geometry Level 3

Two circles p p and q q which have the same radii of 7 cm intersect to each other and the distance between their centre, p q = 11 cm pq = 11 \text{ cm} .

a b ab is a tangent line that touches the circle p p and q q at points a a and b b respectively.

Find the area of the shaded region ( in cm 2 \text{cm}^2 ).

Use the approximation, π = 22 7 \pi = \dfrac{22}7 .

The answer is 8.86.

Because I use 22/7 as π , so that 77- (22/7) * (49/2) + 8.86467 =8.86467 Therefore the area of shaded region =area of circular segment AB
