If we take his cost for 1 month for travelling, we get ----
i) If he pays for each trip, then he has to pay a total of $ ( 2 + 2 ) = $ 4 each day, first $ 2 for going and second $ 2 for returning. Then for 3 days in each week, he pays = $ ( 4 × 3 ) = $ 1 2 each week and for 4 weeks(a month), he pays = $ ( 1 2 × 4 ) = $ 4 8 to go to work for a month.
ii) If he takes a day pass, he has to pay $ 1 5 for every work day but we saw that if he pays each trip separately, it costs lower than this, so day pass can be ruled out.
iii) If he takes week pass, he has to pay $ 2 9 for every week but we saw that if he pays each trip separately, it costs lower than this, so week pass can be ruled out.
iv) If he takes monthly pass, he has to pay $ 6 6 for each month but we saw thatif he pays each trip separately, it costs lower than this, so monthly pass can be ruled out.
v) Even we can see that no combination of different modes of transport can cost less than $ 4 8 in a month.
Thus, the answer is Pay for each trip individually.
