The average molecular weight of amino acid is 1 1 0 Da (Dalton = 1 2 1 × mass of carbon atom)( see footnote of a table). Therefore a 5 5 kDa protein has on average 5 5 0 0 0 / 1 1 0 = 5 0 0 amino acids.
