The average molecular weight of amino acid is 110 110 Da (Dalton = 1 12 × =\frac {1} {12} \times mass of carbon atom)( see footnote of a table). Therefore a 55 55 kDa protein has on average 55000 / 110 = 500 55000/110= \boxed{500} amino acids.
