Twister? Seriously?

Logic Level 1

I have four pets whose names are Vaporeon , Snorlax , Gyarados and Exeggutor .

My Vaporean is stronger than my Snorlax, but is weaker than my Exeggutor.
My Snorlax is neither the strongest nor the weakest of these four.

Which is stronger, Exeggutor or Gyrados?

Exeggutor Gyrados

Gyarados is also a flying type, which beats grass type. Food for thought

Let's define set P = { Vaporeon , Snorlax , Gyarados , Exeggutor } P = \left\{\text{Vaporeon},\text{Snorlax},\text{Gyarados},\text{Exeggutor} \right\} (pets) and function s : P R s: P \mapsto \mathbb{R} (strength).

"My Vaporean is stronger than my Snorlax, but is weaker than my Exeggutor." tells that s ( Exeggutor ) > s ( Vaporeon ) > s ( Snorlax ) s\left(\text{Exeggutor}\right) > s\left(\text{Vaporeon}\right) > s\left(\text{Snorlax}\right) .

"My Snorlax is neither the strongest nor the weakest of these four." tells that p P : s ( Snorlax ) > s ( p ) \exists p \in P : s\left(\text{Snorlax}\right) > s\left(p\right) .

These imply that s ( Snorlax ) > s ( Gyarados ) s ( Exeggutor ) > s ( Gyarados ) s\left(\text{Snorlax}\right) > s\left(\text{Gyarados}\right) \implies s\left(\text{Exeggutor}\right) > s\left(\text{Gyarados}\right) .

Hence, Exeggutor \boxed{\text{Exeggutor}} is stronger.

If we assign ranking numbers to each (something I like to do for these problems) with 4 as the strongest and 1 as the weakest, Snorlax cannot be 1 or 4. If there are two "pets" above Snorlax, that would mean that Snorlax is rank 2, with Exeggutor and Vaporean in ranks 3 and 4. (It doesn't actually matter how the two occupy those ranks.) This leaves rank 1 for the sole remaining "pet", Gyrados. 1 is weaker than 3 and 4, so the Exeggutor is stronger.

Step 1: Vaporean is stronger than Snorriax ............... V>S
step 2 : Exeggutor is stronger than Vaporean ............E>V>S
Step 3: Snorieam is nor the weakest of these four......E>V>S>G
Conclusion : Exegguor is stronger

Solution 1-Exeggutor is a grass type and Gyrados is a water type. Grass beats water.

Solution 2-Snorlax is either second or third. The first hint tells us that it is third. Gyrados is last and Exeggutor is first
