We know that the distance between the cars is 360 miles, and that they are going with the speeds of 50mph and 70mph. To make this easier, we can think of this problem as one car going with the combined speeds of the 2 cars.
So: 50+70=120mph (Combined speed of the cars)
Now that we have this number, we can go ahead and use the Distance Rate Time formula.
In this case, we are using Time = Distance / Rate (Because we know the rate and distance). Substituting the Distance and Time for our numbers, we get that:
rate = 360/120 or 3 hours
