$R^2 = r^2+12^2$

$R^2 - r^2 = 144$

Shaded area = area of large circle - area of small circle

Shaded area = $\pi R^2- \pi r^2$

Shaded area = $\pi (R^2-r^2)$

Shaded area = $\pi \times 144$

Shaded area = $\boxed{354.16}$
