Two Giants Of Chemistry

Chemistry Level 4

A solution of 100 100 m L \ce{mL} , 0.2 0.2 M \ce{M} C H X 3 C O O H \ce {CH3COOH} is mixed with 100 100 m L \ce{mL} , 0.2 0.2 M \ce{M} N a O H \ce{NaOH} .The molar conductance of 0.1 0.1 M \ce{M} C H X 3 C O O H \ce {CH3COOH} at infinite dilution is 200 200 S c m X 2 m o l X 1 \ce{S cm^2 mol^{-1}} and at any concentration is 2.0 2.0 S c m X 2 m o l X 1 \ce{S cm^2 mol^{-1}} . Then calculate p H \ce{pH} of the solution .

Calculate the degree of ionisation (alpha) using the info regarding conductivities Then calculate ionisation constant of the acid Ka=C@^2(approx,neglect the alpha term in the denominator) Next realise milieq of acid=milieq of base So salt formation of strong base weak acid occurs Use pH=7 +1/2pKa +1/2logC To get pH=9 That's it
