Understanding a Rubik's Cube

Level 2

Imagine a Rubik's Cube. What do you imagine? Mental Torture? Perhaps a scrambled cube? Maybe a speedcuber solving his 9 * 9? Most of the times people would imagine a 3 * 3 * 3 cube with each face a different color, most of the time red, green, blue, white, yellow, and orange.

I cannot tell you how to solve it, but I can help you understand each part of a cube.

First you must know each sides opposites. Blue is opposite to Green. Red is opposite to Orange. White is opposite to Yellow.

If I were going to give you 2 sides of a cube, is it possible to get every other side of the cube?

No, it is not possible It depends on the 2 sides Yes, it is possible

From my experience, if you are given the color of 2 adjacent sides of the cube, you will be able to conclude 1 possibility for each other sides, why?

If you observe a rubik's cube, you will notice that

     1) Opposite sides color as told in the question.
         a) Blue is opposite to Green.
         b) Red is opposite to Orange.
         c) White is opposite to Yellow.
    2) If Yellow is on the top face and Red is the front,
then Blue is on the left face.
There can be other way to describe this in different color.

Let's assume that the two given side is Green and White.
 Both are adjacent face.
The color opposite White is Yellow.
The color opposite Green is Blue.
Lets fix Yellow on the top face and Blue on the front face.
Since both face is given or deduced from observation,
we wouldn't have to worry about the orientation
because we can re-rotate it to the original given position.

      Y
  ?1 B ?2 G
      W

Because if Yellow is on the top face and Red is the front,
then Blue is on the left face,
we can conclude that the face ?2 is Red.
 Therefore, ?1 is Orange.

     Y
  O B R G
     W

Any other cases can also de deduced this way.

However, if the two given side is opposite each other, there are 4 possibilities.
Each possibilities is the result of 90 or 180 degree rotation of the others.

Yes this is correct. Most people don't care about that cube anymore, let alone try to solve it. This problem was written with me knowing how to solve the cube because otherwise the info would be wrong.
